Why the human soul craves human-made art in the age of AI-generated content

The human soul has an innate need for creative expression.

Whether it is through music, painting, literature, or any other form of creative expression, the human spirit longs for the beauty, depth, and emotional connection that art and the creative process provides.

It’s a connection that transcends the mundane and allows us to tap into something greater than ourselves.

With algorithms generating news articles, social media posts, and even novels, it is easy to assume that art may be on the brink of extinction.

But the truth is that the creative process will never die.

AI-generated content may be efficient, but it provides nothing to the person using it to create because it allows you to skip past the generative creative process itself.

People don’t like it when I say that humans don’t have a monopoly on creativity. Creativity is taking different things and combining them in new ways.

Human ingenuity is algorithmic; look at all of the possible solutions you can find to a problem, take out the ones that have been tried before, and keep the ones that haven’t been tried before, and those are creative solutions. It’s it’s an algorithmic way of describing creativity.

– Mo Gawdat, Diary of a CEO

Art is not just about creating something that looks or sounds good; it is about creating something that speaks to the soul. It is the artist’s ability to convey emotion, evoke empathy, and inspire awe that sets their work apart from mere content.

Art is a form of communication that is unique. It allows us to share our experiences, our struggles, and our triumphs with others in a way that is more than the sum of its parts.

Through art, we can connect with people we have never met, understand their perspectives, and feel their pain.

But most importantly, we can explore and interpret our own experience of existing through the creative process – and keep in mind that creativity can be applied to anything. It’s not just art or writing that we create. Creativity is the problem-solving process by which we got this far in evolution.

And through creative expression we can even reach out across time and connect with people whose footprints have long since been washed away by the waves.

Human writing, human art, will always have a place in the world.

While AI may be able to produce content quickly and efficiently, it cannot replace the human creativity, insight, and sensitivity that are so integral to the process itself.

The best works of art are the ones that challenge us, that make us think, allow us to process how we feel, and push us to see the world in a new way.

Art is essential. It has the power to heal, inspire, and uplift.

In a world that is often filled with chaos, art provides a much-needed respite from the stresses of daily life. It reminds us that there is beauty in the world, that there is hope, and that there is a reason to keep going.

Creative activities are a powerful tool for emotional healing.

It allows you to explore and process difficult emotions, traumas, or experiences in a safe and controlled environment.

Through the creative process, you can gain insights, find new perspectives, and work through emotional challenges, leading to a sense of resolution and personal growth.

Creativity encourages self-exploration and introspection, enabling you to discover new aspects of yourself and your capabilities.

As you engage in the creative process, you may uncover hidden talents, develop new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of your values, desires, and purpose.

This self-discovery is transformative and leads to personal growth and a greater sense of fulfilment.

Creative activities often require you to be fully present in the moment.

Whether it’s painting, dancing, or writing, the process demands your attention and focus.

By immersing yourself in the creative act, you can cultivate mindfulness and develop an increased awareness of the present moment.

This reduces stress, enhances your ability to concentrate, and improves overall well-being. If you outsource all that to an AI, you see none of the benefits of going through the process (“grow through what you go through”, right?) and you rob others of your lived experience.

And it’s human connection that is going to become increasingly scarce, increasingly valuable in a world run by machines, so do yourself and everyone else a favour, and go create.

All the love, all the power ❤️‍🔥
