Reading is one of life’s great joys — but if I’m honest, it can also be a pretty lonely hobby.

You finish a book that completely wrecked you, and there’s no one to debrief with. You discover an indie author doing something genuinely original, and you want to shout about it — but your feed has moved on. You’re drowning in your TBR and somehow still hungry for more.

That’s exactly how Beth felt. And it’s exactly why she built Wings & Words.

The community born from a breakdown (and a love of books).

Beth didn’t set out to become a community founder. She had a mental health crisis, found her way back to reading, and couldn’t keep that joy to herself.

“Honestly, I had a mental breakdown! In that, I found my love for reading again and needed to share that love with people. That led to TikTok lives, and on there I met indie authors and realised that I could do something amazing for them, other readers, and myself.”

What grew from that moment is Wings & Words — a warm, inclusive community of ARC readers who read indie books together, chat with each other and the authors as they go, and then watch the reviews they leave create real, tangible visibility for books that might otherwise be overlooked.

Because as every book lover knows: books need reviews to get a chance. Especially indie ones.

What makes Wings & Words different.

This isn’t just another ARC platform. It’s a community.

Members read together. They talk to each other. They talk directly to the authors of the books they’re reading. And when the reviews go up, everyone gets to watch the ripple effect — a little-known indie title climbing the ranks on Goodreads, finding new readers, getting the attention it deserves.

Mental health matters deeply to Beth, and that ethos runs through everything Wings & Words does. There are no reading quotas. No pressure. No follower count requirements. Just readers showing up exactly as they are, doing what they love, and supporting authors who are pursuing their dream.

“Now I’m drowning in books, in the best way! Mostly, I have found so many unique books with unique stories that I would never have found in the traditional book shops.”

The books? There’s something for everyone!

Beth is a romance reader at heart — she has a soft spot for pet cameos, why choose, and stories featuring plus size characters, mental health rep, and ADHD rep. But Wings & Words has grown well beyond romance.

The community reads across a wide range of genres, including:

  • contemporary romance
  • historical fiction
  • fantasy & fantasy romance
  • sci-Fi romance
  • psychological horror
  • and plenty more

If you’re someone who loves discovering books before the hype — or books that deserve more hype than they get — you’ll feel right at home.

This might be for you if…

🦋 You love reading books that haven’t been released yet or haven’t got the attention they deserve

🦋 You can provide honest, timely reviews — on whatever platform you already use

🦋 You want to be part of a kind, inclusive, book-loving community

🦋 You’d love direct contact with the authors of the books you’re reading

And if you’re wondering whether you’re “qualified” — you are. Wings & Words doesn’t look at follower counts. They just want passionate, reliable readers who genuinely care about the books and the authors behind them.

What Beth would tell you if you’re on the fence about joining.

“You can always leave if you don’t like it, but you won’t want to. This community provides friends, never-ending reading possibilities, and the opportunity to support indie authors pursuing their dream.”

Wings & Words has grown into something rare: a sought-after space where readers and authors find each other, where reviews make a real difference, and where showing up for books is something you do together.

Beth has even opened a bookshop stocking titles from the very authors the community has championed — so the support goes full circle.

If you’re ready to stop reading alone and start being part of something bigger, the door is open.
