Last week when I made a casual comment to another slow burn sci-fi romance author friend about how cool it would be to have a Stuff Your Kindle event for specifically slow burn sci-fi romance books we realised just how few other slow burn sci-fis we could name.
Gasp!
I grew up reading SFF, but it wasn’t I started writing sci-fi romance that I realised how woefully little sci-fi romance I’ve read. Fantasy romance and romantasy I’ve read plenty of, and alien smut, sure. But actual slow burn sci-fi romance?!
To correct this travesty, I went to Reddit and asked for recommendations, and the absolutely lovely people in r/ScienceFictionRomance did not disappoint me!
In order to keep track of all the book recommendations that were coming in, I decided to make a list and turn this into a reading project! (And I will continue to add more recs if I get more.)
Why slow burn sci-fi romance?
Yesterday I was having an abysmal day – hormones or seasonal blahs or whatever, it wasn’t great. And I decided to skip every book I’m currently in the middle of and start a slow burn romance written by a new friend – and the joy that flooded me as I read just the first chapter… priceless.
I feel so inundated by alien smut and lighter sci-fi romance reads that I was starting to feel crazy. And very alone. So, I am SO HAPPY that I decided to take action on this. Now, I’ve got a whole list of slow burn books just waiting for me. Not all of them are strictly romance, some of them are more classic sci-fi but with a romantic subplot.
But hey, I’m not being picky. This is a wonderful start!
Before we get started, I’m going to mention my own books – which are very much a “couldn’t find what I wanted to read so I wrote it myself” kind of thing. Super slow burn, alien romance that develops over several books. The story is full of action, angst and banter and you can see those books here.
